After a decade long hiatus the Indiana Jones franchise is progressing towards a new movie. But this time Steven Spielberg will not be the one behind the camera though.
The last movie in Indiana Jones franchise was released in 2008. Since then little progress has been made yet. The fifth installation was announced by Disney in 2016 with a tentative release date of July 2019. But things did not go well as planned. In the meantime, Steven Spielberg has handed the director’s post to James Mangold ( famous for Logan, Ford vs Ferrari). The upcoming movie has faced a good deal of script issues.
Producer Frank Marshall justified the change of director. He even praised Mangold’s skills as a director and said that “He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.”

Will Harrison Ford Return as the protagonist in the Upcoming Movie?
Yes, Harrison Ford will return as the adventurous archaeologist Indiana Smith once again. Harrison had even boasted about his role in Indiana Jones. He said, “When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy. Get it in .”
Producer Frank Marshall has clarified that the role would not be recast for the new movie.
Release Date
With the change of director, things will take time to get sorted. James Mangold may decide to make changes in the story and such a decision will further delay the project. The ongoing global pandemic, delays in film production is obviously expected. But Indiana Jones 5 is still in a very early stage so things will take time. Disney has given a tentative release date of July 2022.
