Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Womanthat came out in 2017 was a huge success and a great addition to the DC Extended Universe. And now, the sequel to the huge commercial success that was Wonder Woman was, Wonder Woman 1984 will surely live up to the expectations that fans have from it.
Plot details and cast of WW84
Wonder Woman 1984, or WW84, follows the story of Amazonian warrior princess Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. While Wonder Woman was set during the time of World War 1, events in WW84 take place in the year 1984 during the Cold War, where Diana Prince faces off against media tycoon Maxwell Lord and against an old friend, now turned enemy, Barbara Minerva/Cheetah. Diana Prince also reunites with her lover from the first film in the franchise, Steve Trevor.
The director of the film Patty Jenkins has mentioned several times that WW84 is not a sequel, and that it is a completely different film than what we saw in Wonder Woman. However, it does not matter to the ardent fans of the comics-inspired movie franchise to think of it as one. The movie is set in a completely different timeline with a completely different story, says Patty Jenkins.
Gal Gadot reprises her role of the Amazonian warrior princess Diana Prince. Chris Pine also reprises his role of Steve Trevor from the first film, playing an American pilot and the love interest of Diana. Although Steve Trevor died in the first film, it will be interesting to see how Chris Pine is reinstated into his role in the second Wonder Woman film. Kristen Wiig is a new addition to the cast, as is Pedro Pascal. Kristen plays the role of Diana’s friend turned foe Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal plays the role of media businessman Maxwell Lord.
