X-Men: Dark Phoenix! Why didn’t it hit the block buster?

Unfortunately, 20th Century Fox’s Dark Phoenix closed in a disappointing fashion for all the movie fans. As a legacy followed by the franchise it failed to deliver a proper adaptation to the amazing and loved Comics storyline and lacked an emotional touch.

“Dark Phoenix” released at the start of June and had an opening of just $33 million which shook a lot of fans. According to a report that broke down the biggest box office bombs from the previous year, X Men lost around $133 million. And it had 23% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes which clearly didn’t encourage the audience to go and check out the film.

Why did Dark Phoenix fail so awfully?

Definitely, when it comes to Dark Phoenix there can’t be one single factor but factors combined to push the film below!
One of those was bad reviews. Even though it had a star cast of Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, McAvoy who appeared in the previous franchise, the film couldn’t get up to the mark reviews. According to the reports the Dark Phoenix had similarities to another Marvel movies and Critics score was low because of this. Once you see a movie less reviewed or scored there’s a chance of it less hitting on the blockbuster list.

Another reason was the story was completely adapted from the classic Marvel storyline The Dark Phoenix Saga which was also adapted in 2006’s X-Men: The Last stand. It felt repetitious to the audience who had already seen the previous movie which also leads to bad reviews and critics.

While it was released in theatre another big movie “Aladdin” remake was already going strong in the theatres. And Aladdin had scored better on the scoreboard which helped in impressing the audience and critics. This was also one of the reasons where X Men was left little behind.

So Dark Phoenix was one of the franchise killers in 2019.
