Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, Mi 9 SE Launched : Everything you need to know



Xiaomi has tossed the Xiaomi Mi 9 today at an event held in China. This high-end flagship smartphone comes with the Qualcomm’s modern Snapdragon 855 processor. The price of the device starts at 2,999 Yuan which roughly translates to Rs. 31,752.

Xiaomi has also publicized the Mi 9 SE, a low-priced variant of the flagship Mi 9 that will be motorized by Snapdragon 712 processor. Technically, Mi 9 SE is the first smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 712 SoC.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 boasts a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED display by Samsung with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 90.7% screen-to-body ratio. The device has a water drop notch on the facade and a minimal chin at the bottom. Xiaomi pronounces that it is 40% reduced compared to the chin of Mi 8. The display has 103.8% NTSC super-wide color gamut and the brightness goes all the way up to 600 nits.

Underneath the display resides an in-display fingerprint sensor. And the display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Xiaomi states the fingerprint scanner is comparatively quicker than the previous generation.

Moving further, the Mi 9 originates with enhanced eye fortification on the display and improved color reproduction under the direct sunlight. Xiaomi has tossed the Mi 9 with three color choices Lavender Violet, Piano Black, and Ocean Blue.

Notably, the Xiaomi Mi9 and Mi 9 Transparent Editions are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and hurled with two storage possibilities 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB. Whereas, the transparent variant arises with whopping 12GB RAM and 256GB on boot storage.

The Mi 9 is backed by 3300mAh battery and arises with 20W fast charge support. But the low-priced Mi 9 SE folders a 3,070mAh battery that provisions 18W fast charging. Rest of the specifications are in streak with the Mi 9 and Mi 9 Transparent Edition.

As for the optics, the Mi 9 has a triple-decker camera arrangement at the back which can shoot videos at 960 FPS. The primary unit is a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.75 aperture, which also provisions Four in One Super Pixel. Well, that’s how Xiaomi calls the pixel binning technology that combines information from four pixels into one pixel.

In theory, the 48MP of 0.8 microns size pixels combine to become 1.6 microns for 12MP photographs. The secondary lens is 16MP Samsung S5K3M5 ultra-wide lens with a 117degree field of view. The aperture of this unit is f/2.2 with the pixel size of 1.0 microns. The third camera on the back of Xiaomi Mi 9 is a 12MP Sony IMX481 zoom lens with f/2.2 aperture, 1.0-micron pixel size. Xiaomi privileges that the lens can take vibrant shots with 2X optical zoom.

For selfies, Mi 9 has a 20MP front camera with AI beautification features. The camera also has a Moon mode and derives with an enhanced experience for TikTok users. Additionally, the camera of the Mi 9 is flaunted to have received an overall DxO score of 107.

Coming to the Xiaomi Mi 9 Transparent Edition, it has hardware alike to the original Mi 9. On the other hand, it has 12GB of RAM, the seven-piece lens with an f 1.47 aperture on top of the primary sensor, and full-surface see-through transparent back. There is a triple rear camera arrangement on the Mi 9 SE that comprises a 48-megapixel primary sensor, 8-megapixel secondary sensor, and a 13-megapixel tertiary sensor.

The 6GB + 128GB variant of Mi 9 has been priced at Yuan 2,999 (approximately Rs. 31,000). On the other hand, the 8GB + 128GB version is priced at Yuan 3299 (roughly Rs. 34,000).

Mi 9 will be accessible for pre-order on February 20 and February 26 for open sale through and Xiaomi’s major trade channels in China. For now, Xiaomi Mi 9 Transparent Edition costs 3999 Yuan (approx Rs. 42,000) and is offered with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
