Xiaomi Mi A3 might be in development, to support NFC

Xiaomi achieved great success in the markets of India and China thanks to their wide range of products in every segment. According to the data from IDC, Xiaomi outsells every other smartphone manufacturer in India. Xiaomi’s Mi smartphones like Mi A1, Mi A2, and Mi A2 Lite doesn’t run the company’s UI MIUI and runs stock Android OS with guaranteed 3 years of monthly security and 2 years of Android platform updates.

The company launched its Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite smartphones last year in summer and now the Chinese manufacturer is already working on its next Android One phones. Today, XDA Junior Member franztesca at XDA developers spotted the code-name orchid_sprout in the Android 9 Pie based user interface for the Mi 9 and the Mi Mix 3 flagship smartphones. The suffix sprouts is used to describe all the Android One smartphone including the previous phones Android One smartphone the company developed as part of the program.

The Mi A1 was codenamed tissot_sprout while its successor Mi A2 was named jasmine_sprout while the Mi A2 Lite was developed under the moniker daisy_sprout. Other information about the orchid_sprout is scarce though the firmware reveals that it will support an NFC chip from NXP. If it turns out to be the Mi A3, it will be the first Android One smartphone to have an NFC support along with a glass back. There is also the possibility, that the handset may get canceled as it happened with numerous other Xiaomi devices like “achiles”, “gold”, “centaur”, “lilium” and “comet” the folks at XDA Developer clarified. The company has not announced.
