Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI Global Beta ROM for the Redmi 5A smartphone which the company launched in India about a year ago. The Chinese manufacturer has been rolling out MIUI 10 to its compatible devices in a phased manner since its debut. The MIUI 10 was first announced in July this year, debuting with the Xiaomi Mi 8 flagship smartphone. Since then the company has been testing the beta versions on its handsets and eventually rolling the stable releases in September. The Redmi 6 series are the first ones to get the MIUI Stable ROM update, but since then many handsets have got the update in China and Global market. Earlier this month, the company confirmed that 21 more smartphones in its line up will be getting the MIUI 10 update including the Redmi 5A.
In a post by a moderator on MIUI forum, Xiaomi has started rolling of the MIUI 10 Global Beta Stable ROM for the Redmi 5A smartphone. The update carries build number 10.1.1.0.NCKMIFI and is distributed in over-the-air (OTA) format for the users. The post further mentions that this is a beta stable ROM and only for selected users. Eventually, the next stable update will be distributed to everyone without the beta tag. From some of the screenshots shared by a user MIUI forum, the update is based on an old Android Nougat and not Android Oreo as expected. However, a couple of new features are expected to be added though Xiaomi is yet to update the full changelog yet.
If you are Redmi 5A owner and want to check for the MIUI Beta Stable ROM update go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. Else, you can go to ‘Updater’ and check for updates directly. The folks at XDA have also managed to provide the MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM package in the form of recovery ROMs for the Redmi 5A which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. But we would advise the users to not go for the recovery ROM and wait for the official stable rollout to get the best out of the custom OS.
The Redmi 5A was initially launched with MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat and featured a 5 inch HD (720×1280 pixels) LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 SoC clocked at 1.4 GHz, it is offered in two configurations: 2GB RAM + 16GB internal memory or 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage. It sports a 13MP rear camera while offering a 5MP in the front. The device comes with a fingerprint sensor on the back and also supports two SIM slots and a micro SD slot together. The handset is backed up by a 3080 mAh battery and is available in Gold and Dark Grey color options.
