Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is reported to be working on a 100MP (or 108MP) camera sensor. If you thought that 64MP is the future of smartphone photography, you might want to reconsider that.
A Russian website has reported that Xiaomi is working on a 100MP smartphone (100 million pixels). It further claims that Samsung will be the one to provide this sensor for Xiaomi. As per the information available, Samsung ISOCELL sensor will be powering the upcoming 100MP Xiaomi smartphone.
Xiaomi itself claimed in a Weibo post that a 100 mega pixel smartphone is coming soon with Samsung sensor. However the company didn’t clarify whether this 100MP smartphone will have Samsung ISOCELL sensors.
Redmi’s next smartphone is the Redmi Note 8 which will likely to feature a 64MP camera. It is powered by Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor with support for Tetracell and 3D HDR technology for shooting in low-light environment. The 0.8µm pixel with ISOCELL Plus technology “significantly increases light sensitivity and color fidelity for more accurate and clearer photos”, as claimed in the official website.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 4
There is no official confirmation but Xiaomi’s new smartphone with 100MP camera could be the Mi Mix 4. The predecessor Mi Mix 3, launched in October last year was a success. There were reports of the device earlier this year but eventually turned out to be false. The handset is expected to come with a 64MP sensor, but it may surprise everyone with a 100MP.
Xiaomi’s Product Director gave a hint in July claiming that Mi Mix 4 will have an even better sensor than Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1. But Xiaomi is not the only manufacturer working on a 100MP camera smartphone. Lenovo teased their 100MP smartphone back in March this year which can be a successor to the Z5 Pro GT or the Z6 Pro. It will be interesting to see which manufacturer manages to get it first to the market.
