7 Great Bedroom Decor Ideas to Amp Up Your Space

The bedroom is one of the trickiest rooms to furnish. You’ve probably been drooling over home tours and Pinterest boards, but you’re stuck because you have no idea where to start with the finishing touches. A little bed frame cover here, a little cushion there…still feeling lost?

Well, first of all, don’t be too hard on yourself. Most of these people with fabulous homes struggled before turning into home design pros too. So while you are still learning, relax and peep in our ready-to-use cheat sheet on how to style your bedroom with taste and ease!

1. Stick with calming colors

Chromotherapy is the practice of using colors to make people feel good and improve their mental health. Did you know it’s widely used in home interior design too? By choosing the wrong color scheme for your walls you might create an undesirable environment in your living space without even realizing it.

No wonder why a striking-red bedroom makes you anxious upon entry! To set a relaxing vibe, opt for calming colors. For instance, all shades of blue soothe the space, which makes them perfect for a serene feeling at home. In the same manner, you may go for greens as they are inherently calming and remind us of nature.

2. Style your nightstand

Styling your nightstand can add a personal touch to your bedroom and create a functional and visually appealing space. This is specifically true for smaller bedrooms where bedside tables can stand for dressers and save you valuable inches.

For better results, incorporate more storage options such as a small tray or a decorative box, and place them on your nightstand. Use this storage space to corral small items such as jewelry, reading glasses, or your phone charger that are typically seen on larger dressers.

3. Fill empty corners

This tip will work for those owning bigger spaces and struggling with styling them. And we totally get the struggle! Too much furniture can overwhelm a room, while too little makes it feel empty. To be on the safe side, choose a moderate approach and add just a few more pieces, such as a dressing table and stool to make the best out of an empty space. For instance, a floor lamp can help illuminate a dark nook and create a cozy atmosphere, while a sculpture can provide a unique focal point for a corner.

4. Create a cozy reading nook

There is nothing more “cozy” than a chair that you can genuinely sink into while reading a book. Find a chair that feels sumptuous to the touch, then pair it with a throw pillow that adds color or texture, as well as personal touches of décor, such as family photographs or wall hangings from a recent vacation. Good lighting is extremely important for a reading nook too! Make sure you have a reading lamp or floor lamp nearby, or consider adding string lights for a cozy ambiance.

5. Layer your lighting

Layering the lighting in your bedroom is an excellent way to create a stylish and functional space. Start with ambient lighting. It’s the primary source of light in the room, and it should be soft and diffused.

Add task lighting for specific activities like reading in bed or getting dressed. A bedside table lamp or wall sconce would perfectly do the job. And don’t forget about natural lighting! It can help create a calming atmosphere in the bedroom. Consider adding sheer curtains to allow more light into the space while maintaining privacy.

6. Hang a wall art

It doesn’t matter how stylishly you furnish your bedroom if you don’t decorate the walls. Adding wall art to your bedroom is an excellent way to personalize your space and give it a gorgeous and cohesive look.

Though remember, the size of your wall art should stay proportional to the size of your bedroom. A small piece may get lost in a large room, and vice versa — a large piece will overwhelm a small space. Consider using a gallery wall to mix and match different sizes and styles of art. And don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles of art to create a unique and eclectic look.

7. Get a clothing stand

A clothing stand is a stylish and practical addition to any bedroom. It provides a functional space to hang clothes while also adding a touch of design. Choose a clothing stand that complements the style of your bedroom. If your bedroom has a modern aesthetic, consider a sleek and minimalist stand.

If your decor is more bohemian, a stand with a natural wood finish or woven details could be a good fit. Display your favorite outfits or pieces. This can serve as inspiration for future outfits or as a way to showcase your personal style.

Hey, you aren’t an interior design beginner any more! It’s right about time to drop the theory and get down to practice. Remember, the key to styling your bedroom is to create a space that is both functional and reflective of your personal style. Start with a calm color scheme and add functional furniture and personal touches to make the space your own. Good luck!
