The Righteous Gemstones Season 2: Release Date, Plot and Updates!

Danny McBride creation The Righteous Gemstones is now on the threshold of their second season after a successful opening season. The show opened its doors to the audience on August 18, 2019, on HBO. It is the story of the world-famous Gemstone televangelist family, which has “a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ”.  Eli Gemstone, the head of the family, and his children, Jesse, Judy and Kelvin ” live opulent lifestyles funded by their congregations’ tithing, and work to expand their network of megachurches, making enemies of the pastors of existing churches.”

Back in 2018, words have been carried around HBO regarding the pilot of the show. The introductory episode was written and directed by Danny McBride who is also an executive producer alongside Jody Hill and David Gordon Green. The production development of The Righteous Gemstones was a quick one rather than dreading. McBride has said he intends the series to run “longer than anything we’ve done before.” The character of Eli Gemstone is one of a paradoxical one; at one point you are going to admire him with full heart, on the other hand, you are going to have all kinds of hatred towards him. The character is described as unbending and a force in the Ministry game.

The Righteous Gemstones is led by Danny McBride as Jesse, John Goodman as Eli, Adam DeVine as Kelvin, Edi Patterson as Judy, Tony Cavalero as Keefe, Cassidy Freeman as Amber, Skyler Gisondo as Gideon, Walton Goggins as Billy,  Gregory Alan Williams as Martin, Tim Baltz as Benjamin, Dermot Mulroney as Rev, and Jennifer Nettles as Aimee. The nine episodes long series got nominated this year at the Satellite Awards for the categories of  Best Musical or Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series (Danny McBride), and Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Film (Walton Goggins).
