The Best Boredom Buster Movies To Watch At Home

Published

on

We’ve all been there; you’re at home on a quiet Sunday or your day off, dragging your feet around the house and doing all the little day off tasks you have to do. Finally, when you’re all done, you hurl yourself onto the sofa and stare at the ceiling. YOU’RE BORED. You don’t really want to do anything, but you know that you can’t just lie there doing nothing; you’ll go completely crazy. So you click the TV on and start channel surfing, but nothing really catches your interest there either. Don’t worry; we’ve got the solution! We have the ultimate list of boredom-busting movies to binge on when nothing seems to entertain you.

I, Robot

Starring: Will Smith

In the now reasonably-near future, 2035, the world is populated not only with humans but also with hyper-intelligent robots. These robots have taken on all the public service jobs in each state or municipality around the world, and they operate under the robotics laws that keep robots in their place and human beings safe. While Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) likes to keep as far away from robots and robotics as he can, he’s assigned the case of the apparent suicide of the founder of the US Robotics corporation. The waters are murky here, as some people close to the case believe that Alfred Lanning did not commit suicide but was, in fact, murdered by a creepily human-like robot. With some highly skilled help from a lovely lady robotics expert (naturally), the skeptical Spooner begins to unravel the tangled web that might be a conspiracy designed to enslave all of humankind.

Salt

Starring: Angelina Jolie

We’re keeping the action coming with this exciting, fast-paced, nerve-tingling film starring Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt. Salt is a CIA agent who, like the rest of the CIA, took an oath to protect her country and do her duty with honor. Things don’t go smoothly for Evelyn for too long; a defector accuses her of turning against the US to spy for the Russians. Salt’s oath and her mettle are both put to the test as she undertakes to prove her innocence with no help from anyone in her agency. Of course, the more she tries to prove her innocence, the more guilty she makes herself look. On the run from her compatriots, Salt feels the net tightening and knows she’ll only get one chance to plead her case.

Soul Surfer

Starring: Anna Sophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt

This film is a true story, and the film’s direction keeps pretty close to the actual events that unfolded around talented surfer Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton, hopefully on her way to becoming a pro surfer, loses an arm and almost her life to a vicious shark attack. After the event, Hamilton must learn to cope with her loss and come to terms with a very different reality than the one she knew previously. Refusing to give up and digging into her faith, Hamilton looks for answers through the anger that she feels and tries to see what her future will look like.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Starring: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton

Despite the name and the fact that we all know the original story from when we were younger, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is actually a pretty exciting movie. The Hansel and Gretel that we all know from the story are all grown up and now hunt devilish witches for a living. They’re called to a town where children keep going missing and end up uncovering a plot by the queen of the witches to make her and her sister all invulnerable to fire, using the children and one extra special ingredient she has failed to get once before. Hansel and Gretel are drawn into the middle of the plot and end up discovering something about their childhood that they could never have expected.

Taken

Starring: Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen

The first of a trilogy of movies by the same name, Taken is a CLASSIC action movie about a man on a mission. Bryan Mills, a retired CIA agent who now works security for a living, is overly cautious about the welfare of his daughter Kim. Tricked by Kim’s mother, Bryan agrees to let her go to Paris for a vacation with a friend. The girls actually plan to follow a rock band on their tour but never get the chance as they are snatched up by traffickers the day they arrive. Using his decades of CIA experience, Bryan sets out across the world, not caring who or what gets in his way, to retrieve his daughter. There are some truly iconic moments in this movie and not a second of downtime in which to be bored.

Wrap Up

This list is the ultimate boredom-buster, with action-packed and soulful movie moments aplenty. We dare you to try and be bored while watching these films!
