A few weeks ago, The CW announced Kate Kane’s departure from the new season of Batwoman. Though that is a shock, the makers gave an even bigger shock. What The CW says?

The CW says that they are not going to recast the role of Kate Kane. Instead, they are planning to introduce a new character as Batwoman. This is a major change to the plot of the show because the entire character network has Kate Kane as its center. Suddenly, the focal point changes, now the entire show is affected. Kate’s ex-girlfriend, her sister, her father everybody is now under the shadow of Kate’s actions. Removing her from the show is not a simple decision. Fans require answers to their questions.

Many fans speculate that the popular show follows “Bury your Gays” trope that now gains momentum. As per this trope, many shows started removing their characters both main and side roles, since they portray gay or lesbian roles on the show. Of course, the plot requires them to do so and suddenly, if there is a shift in the nature, what is their mistake. Fans speculate if Batwoman also follows this rule. What Caroline Dries says?

Answering fans’ queries, Caroline Dries takes it to Twitter. The showrunner of Batwoman for both season one and two says, “As a lesbian who’s been working as a writer for the past fifteen years, I’m well aware of the “Bury Your Gays” trope and I have no interest in participating in it. My comments about recasting Batwoman have launched a storm of rumors and misinformation and I wanted to clarify something. Like you, I love Kate Kane – she’s the reason I wanted to do the show.
We’ll never erase her.”

She then strongly says that the makers did not adhere to the newly emerging trope. “I don’t want to give away any of our surprises, but to all our devoted fans, please know that LGBTQ+ justice is at the very core of what Batwoman is and we have no intention of abandoning that.”

A Major Decision for Batwoman

She continues to speak about her decision of introducing a new character instead of recasting Kate in an interview at the ATX Television Festival. “To be honest with you, I did consider the soap opera version for a hot minute, selfishly because we had already a couple of episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless.”

Caroline Dries adds, “Upon further reflection — and Greg helped me make this call, he is way smarter than me about this sort of stuff — he said, you know, we should just reboot the character in terms of reboot Batwoman as a different character, and also respect everything that Ruby put into the Kate Kane character. And I just think it helps the audience a little bit too, that we are not asking them to not address the elephant in the room.” Batwoman showrunner Caroline explains Kate Kane’s Departure!

She already described what the new character will look like on the casting call. “I’m inventing a whole new character who in her past was inspired by Batwoman, so she will take on the mantle and is completely maybe not the right person at the time to be doing it, so that’s what makes it fun.”

The Batwoman Season 2 did not enter the filming stage as of now. So there is no trailer as of now. Stay connected with us for more updates on who will be the new lead character. Batwoman showrunner Caroline explains Kate Kane’s Departure!
