Epic Games calls off Fortnite World Cup 2020

Keeping all concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic, Epic Games is canceling the Fortnite World Cup 2020 which was scheduled for July 2020. All other Fortnite competitions in 2020 are going to be hosted online instead of in-person also.

“For the remainder of 2020, all Fortnite competitions are going to be held online. thanks to the restrictions of cross-region online competition, there’ll not be a Fortnite World Cup in 2020,” Epic said on Twitter, Thursday. “We don’t know when a return to large, global, in-person events are going to be practical, but we’re hoping to be ready to placed on some sort of Fortnite World Cup in 2021.”

The Fortnite World Cup 2020 had not yet been scheduled, but it had been presumed to be hosted over the summer. Competitive Fortnite players will still have a chance to compete for earnings because the company is hosting Cash Cups and other smaller competitive events. Additionally, all competitions are moving online for the remainder of the year. It includes Fortnite Cash Cups, the Fortnite Champion Series, and every one-third party event.

“We’ve heard the feedback. We are bringing back official broadcasts starting with the FNCS Invitational this weekend! tune for all of the action and more competitive news,” Epic continued. the primary event is often streamed on May 2 at 1:00 PM ET here. The developer’s tweet thread continued saying that the corporate hopes the 2021 event is going to be ready to be held as planned but is taking a cautious approach to the timeline of competitive events. In the meantime, other reoccurring competitions within the Fortnite esports ecosystem will plow ahead as planned with online competition.

Fortnite has seen steady success in hosting live events. Travis Scott debuted a replacement song featuring Kid Cudi during a virtual concert in-game. The event drew 12 million viewers. The Fortnite World Cup made mainstream news last summer as Epic Games put up a then-record 30 million dollars in prizes for the solo and duo events. With all competitions moving online, the cross-region nature of the planet Cup made it impossible to carry this year.
