The Circus is a 2016 TV television series that follows the 2016 presidential election and the Trump administration. It is produced by Left/Right Productions, a company of Red Arrow Studios, for Showtime.
The documentary series was premiered on January 17, 2016, and based on the 2016 U.S. presidential election, from January to November. It was renewed for the second season, which debuted on March 19, 2017, which focused on President Trump’s first 100 days. It returned for the third season on April 15, 2018, focusing on mid-term elections, with CBS News anchor Alex Wagner returning as co-host to succeed Mark Halperin, who was replaced on January 3, 2018, for a show after reports of sexual assault.

The Circus plot:
Presidential campaigns in America still have a lot of mainstream attention, but the 2016 race brings new meaning to the term “media circus” due to the inclusion of media-friendly Republican hopeful Donald Trump. The campaign really builds up as the year moves from 2015 to 2016, which is when this real-time documentary starts to look at Trump’s campaign, the ambitious Progressive Hillary Clinton, and those competing for a chance to spend at least four years in the White House. The series tracks main personalities and campaign stories, giving behind-the-scenes insight to a culture that the viewer only sees in their weekly half-hour shows. The Executive Producers of The Circus include political analysts/authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann (“Game Change”).
