It is no secret that Google is developing mid-range versions of its premium flagships Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. They were initially rumoured to launch as Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite, but a report from the last week had revealed that the respective phones might debut as Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Now, the folks at 9to5 Google has provided detailed information on the specifications of these devices.
The new report matches with the previous Pixel 3a and 3a XL leaks that have surfaced in the recent months. It reveals that the Pixel 3a will feature a 5.6-inch HD+ display while the XL gets a 6-inch screen. They are expected to be offered in Just Black and Clearly White colour options. The report also claims that Google will be offering a third colour variant in a bid to sell more units.
Both the smartphones have 18:9 aspect ratio and dual-tone rear panel with a single rear camera and a fingerprint reader. They borrow the Active Edge squeezable sides from the elder siblings. Other standard features are 64 GB of onboard storage, eSIM support and Titan M security chip.
The Pixel 3a will be powered by a Snapdragon 670 chipset paired with 4 GB of RAM. It will be equipped with an 8MP rear camera and 12MP front sensor. The publication reveals that the performance is the same as the Pixel 3, but the performance of the camera app is poorer.
As for the Pixel 3a XL, the report doesn’t include any specs. It is expected to feature similar specs like the Pixel 3a expect with a larger 6-inch OLED display and a bigger battery. According to an alleged GeekBench listing, the Pixel 3a XL would be powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM. On looking closely, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL appear to be mid-range smartphones rather than flagships. Thus, they are most likely to be the upcoming Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 Lite XL.
Google is yet to give an official launch date of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. A recent report revealed that India could be one of the first countries to get these smartphones. As for the price, it is speculated that these devices will land in the $400-500 segment. Stay tuned for more information.
