It’s been over a decade since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made its way into theatres around the world, and it is safe to say that the fourth film is not quite the favourite of all.
Hopefully, the fifth instalment of the franchise serves as a fitting conclusion to the life of one of the most fancied characters of cinema.
Indiana Jones is an American franchise based on the adventures of Dr Henry Walton Indiana Jones Jr, a fictional professor of archaeology that began in 1981 with the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. The series was created by George Lucas and stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.
Who Is Directing Indiana Jones?
There’s no Indiana Jones without Steven Spielberg, is it? Well, there are slight changes in plans, James Mangold (Ford vs. Ferrari, Logan) is taking over as Spielberg’s successor on Indiana Jones 5 for the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history.

Executive producer Frank Marshall tells Collider that the filmmaker – who steps in for Steven Spielberg on the long-gestating sequel – will bring something new and exciting while retaining the excitement of the previous four gems in the Spielberg-Lucas run.
“His love of the franchise”, Marshall said, when asked why Mangold was the man to dust off Indy’s whip.
“He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison [Ford]. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.”
Variety reported – Spielberg will remain as a hands-on producer on “Indy 5”. The decision to leave the director’s chair was entirely Spielberg’s. The idea was to pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story.
Release Date
The fans have waited for the fifth instalment of the franchise for about 12 years now. The film, which was previously dated for July 9, 2021, has been moved to July 29, 2022.
