Is the Movie ‘Upgrade’ Getting a Sequel?

Seems like Upgrade is being upgraded. Blumhouse production recently announced the news of a sequel of the movie, but this time not in the form of motion pictures, but as a TV series. The production house which had been known for making low-budget potential horror movies is moving a bit with it’s genre selection over time. The 2018 cyberpunk action-horror movie was directed by Leigh Whannell and produced by Jason Blum.

The storyline revolves around Grey and his the accident, which resulted into the death of his wife, Asha, and his eternal paralysis. As the story progresses, he is seen to be approached by a billionaire inventor with an experimental cure that will “upgrade” his body. The cure – an Artificial Intelligence implant called STEM – giving Grey physical abilities beyond anything experienced and the ability to relentlessly claim vengeance against those who murdered his wife and left him for dead.

Tim Walsh is said to be supposedly the co-show runner of the series. There hasn’t been any official announcement about the number of episodes, or the date of release of the series. Things are still uncertain. But words are travelling that Whannell and Walsh are joined by writer-producers Krystal Ziv Houghton and James Roland, who ran the second season of Blumhouse TV’s USA Network horror series The Purge, while discussing the first season. Also, the series is a co-production between Blumhouse Television and UCP, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios, under Blumhouse’s 10-year deal with NBCUniversal.

The director recently got over with yet another horror story, The Invisible Man, which gained quite good reviews and 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. Other successful film collaborations between Whannell and Blumhouse include the Insidious franchise.

One fan commented,

“The movie features futuristic, visionary set pieces (Auto driven cars, smart homes, robotic arms that operate upon voice command and bio enhancing cybernetic chips to name a few.), Kinetic and fluid action scenes, engaging score and good visual and special effects.”

Upgrade starred Logan Marshall-Green as Grey, Simon Maiden as STEM (voice-over), Melanie Vallejo as Asha, Betty Gabriel as Det. Cortez, Linda Cropper as Pamela, Harrison Gilbertson as Eron, and many more.
