Minions 2 will be fifth film in the Despicable Me film franchise. It is the second prequel film in the series overall, and sequel to the 2015 film Minions. The film was announced in January, 2017. It is directed by Kyle Balda, with Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val as co-directors. Balda also served as co-director on Minions, alongside Pierre Coffin. The screenplay of the film is written by Brian Lynch. The title of the film was revealed to be Minions: The Rise of Gru in May, 2019.
The Despicable Me franchise has been widely successful so far, with an overall box office collection of over $3.5 billion dollars. It is the most successful animated franchise of all time.
Cast of Minions 2
The minions will be voiced by Pierre Coffin, who has done a wonderful job in the previous films. He voices the minions Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto and the other minions. The film revolves around the character of Gru. Steve Carell returns as the voice of Felonius Gru. Taraji P. Hensen joins the cast as the voice behind the character Belle Bottom, who is now the de facto leader of The Vicious 6.
Other cast members include Michelle Yeoh as the voice of Master Chow; Jean-Claude Van Damme as the voice of Jean Clawed, the giant lobster clawed member of The Vicious 6; Lucy Lawless as the voice of Nunchuck, the nun villain member of The Vicious 6; Dolph Lundgren as the voice of Svengeance and Danny Trejo as the voice of Stronghold, both members of The Vicious 6. Russell Brand is the voice behind Dr. Nefario, the scientist who becomes Gru’s assistant in the future. Julie Andrews is the voice behind Marlena Gru, Gru’s mother, and Alan Arkin is the voice behind Wild Knuckles, the former leader of The Vicious 6.
Release Date of Minions 2
Minions: The Rise of Gru was first scheduled to release on July 3, 2020. However, the film’s release was postponed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now scheduled to release on July 2, 2021. Check out the trailer of Minions: The Rise of Gru right here.
