How about we give you “Nancy Drew” nostalgia but in millennial style? In November 2016, TBS premiered a hilarious dark comedy set in New York City called “Search Party”. The series, along with the ongoing main plot, also dealt with the everyday problems that millennials have in New York City and off-course modern America. Each episode was half an hour long and series ran for two seasons comfortably. In 2018, after a great critical and popular reception, TBS ordered a third season. For almost a year we did not hear anything about “Search Party”. In October 2019, the announcement was made that the show is shifting to the new OTT platform “HBO Max” and the third season would feature in the Spring 2020 launch of the platform. Along with the third season, HBO Max also announced the fourth instalment.
Kevin Reilly, HBO Max’s chief content officer, said – “With HBO Max we have the unique opportunity to continue this brilliant, acclaimed series and connect with even more of the younger, digital natives who have worshipped it the most,”
What are the dates for the release?
Season 3 is set to release on June 25, 2020. All the previous episodes of the series will feature on HBO Max after the launch. However, season 4 has not yet been given a release date.
“Season three, premiering June 25th, finds the gang swept up in the trial of the century after Dory (Alia Shawkat) and Drew (John Reynolds) are charged for the semi-accidental murder of a private investigator. As Elliott (John Early) and Portia (Meredith Hagner) grapple with whether or not to testify as witnesses, the friends are pitted against each other and thrust into the national spotlight. Dory’s sanity begins to fracture, and it becomes increasingly clear that the group may not have brunch together again for quite some time.” quotes HBO MAX’s official description of season 3.
“Search Party is alive and thriving!! We are so thrilled to show the world what we’ve been working on the past two years and for new fans to find it on HBO Max, You’re going to love the two new seasons, but if for some reason you don’t, then you’ll get your subscription fee back. Actually, that’s not true. That’s a joke. We don’t have that kind of power.” the quirky Sarah-Violet Bliss explained in an interview.
What is the show about?
“Search Party” was created by Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers and Michael Showalter. It featured Brooklynite Dory (Alia Shawkat), Drew (John Reynolds), Elliot (John Early), and Portia (Meredith Hagner) as a close group of friends who go on a quest to find their missing acquaintance Chantal Witherbottom (Clare McNulty). The second season revolves around the death of Keith, a private investigator, who is killed by Dory as she believed he might be a threat to Chantal.
