The Crown Season 5: Release Date, Cast and more!

Created by Peter Morgan, The Crown is a historical drama television series. Morgan developed it from his drama film The Queen (2006) and especially his stage play The Audience (2013). Morgan also served as executive producer of the show along with Stephen Daldry, Andy Harries, Philip Martin, Suzanne Mackie, Matthew Byam Shaw, Robert Fox, Tanya Seghatchian, and Nina Wolarsky, Allie Goss and Benjamin Caron.

The first season was released worldwide in its entirety on 4 November 2016. The second season was released on 8 December 2017. The third season was released on 17 November 2019. The fourth season was released on 15 November 2020. The fifth season is set to be released in 2022.

So, when is the fifth season releasing? What is the plot? Who would come back to reprise their roles? Continue reading to know further details.

The Crown Plot and Cast

Season five will focus on events throughout the 1990s, and is likely to focus particularly on 1992, which Queen Elizabeth famously dubbed her “annus horribilis”. That year brought the collapse of three royal marriages, a devastating fire at Windsor Castle, and a series of scandals that left the royal family shaken.

Morgan has said that “season six will not bring us any closer to the present day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.” The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that the story will end in the 2000s, but it’s unclear exactly how time will be divided between seasons five and six. Certainly, though, Princess Diana’s death will play a role in the series at some point.

Morgan fully recast the show ahead of season three, and it seems like will give it a complete overhaul once again for seasons five and six. Other actors joining the cast of The Crown for Season 5 include Marcia Warren, Claudia Harrison, James Murray, Emma Laird Craig, Sam Woolf, Khalid Abdalla, Salim Dau and Andrew Havill.

The Crown Season 5 Release Date

The Crown’s new Queen, Imelda Staunton, just revealed that Season 5 will premiere in November 2022. The new season is expected to consist of ten episodes like the first four.

The fifth series of The Crown is going to be the penultimate series, looking at the period in question – the turbulent early 90s – in greater detail.
