THE EQUALIZER 1:
Co-created by executive producers Richard Lindheim, with Michael Sloan, and Queen Latifah, who also stars as the title character, “The Equalizer” is an American crime television series, and is the second reboot in the franchise, following the 2014 film and its 2018 sequel and also a reboot of the 1980s series with the same name that premiered on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 10 P.M on CBS.
Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah), an enigmatic woman and single mother to teenage daughter Delilah, with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn, acting as a guardian angel and a defender for those who cannot defend themselves while pursuing her own redemption.
She investigates a community activist’s staged suicide and uncovers a connection between his murder and his protests over local real estate development. Also, Delilah’s driving lessons lead McCall and Aunt Vi to teach her an even bigger lesson regarding personal accountability.
The producers for The Equalizer 2021 are reportedly open to a crossover with the movie series. It would certainly be fun for Washington to make a cameo on the CBS show and a narrative link could involve Queen Latifah landing a supporting role in The Equalizer 3, possibly as one of Bob’s family members.
For now, The Equalizer 2021 stands on its own as a loose adaptation of the original ’80s show, one that will allow CBS to comment on the Black Lives Matter movement along with other timely issues that will appeal to audiences.
