The Last of Us 2 Ending Changed the Game Completely?

The Last of Us 2 is a 2020 adventure game created by Naughty Dog. It is published for PS4 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Set five years after The Last of Us (2013), in the apocalyptic United States. Players guide 19-year-old Ellie, who falls into contact with a sinister cult.

The game incorporates elements of survival horror, which is played from the viewpoint of a third person. Players can use guns, makeshift weapons, and camouflage to protect themselves against enemies and cannibalistic monsters infected with a Cordyceps fungus mutated form.

There might be spoiler ahead.

Father-Daughter Relationship

The Last of Us 2 draws an ellipse, departs and arrives at two points in tragic symmetry. On the first level, we see a grotesque display of brutality delivered without purpose, a torment sequence that is cruelly unkind to the fans of Naughty Dog’s tale so far, a wretched experience that the player must undergo alongside their beloved character Ellie. Through the blunt, unflinchingly gritty final of the campaign, fans are struggling to comprehend a plot that has rapidly sunk into turmoil.

Joel and Ellie rescue themselves and each other throughout, which brings considerable depth to their complicated father-daughter face value. The Last of Us 2 is also about fathers and daughters but, the complexities of the broader post-apocalyptic universe topple through the setting, giving more meaning to the initial lie of Joel.

Losing hold of Ellie at the game’s estimated midway point is abrupt, discordant, and heartening. This is not the first time we have been asked in gaming to deal with a position reversal that undermines our immediate perceptions.

Tragic End

The game ends with one last battle between Ellie and Abby. Even though Abby spares lives of Ellie and Dina in Seattle. Ellie can not deal with the death of Joel at Abby’s side. And Ellie plans to kill her as she tracks down Abby in Santa Barbara. Yet just before she’s about to finish the task, Ellie wants to let Abby live, breaking the loop of abuse that is permeating the game.

It’s somewhat difficult to characterize Abby and Ellie because the game is less interested in these straight echoes. They’re both two young, very different people who are urgently finding redress. By the game’s powerful final act, heavy losses of life accumulated on both sides, but also some sort of shaky peace. Abby goes on with her teen adopted sibling Lev. While Ellie decides to retire with her partner Dina and her son, JJ. All are moving new families ahead.
