WhatsApp will soon get In-app Browsing and Reverse Image Search features

WhatsApp is one of the major instant messaging apps used worldwide. That said, like other companies, WhatsApp tests its new features on the beta channel before rolling them out widely for the user base across the globe. According to a new report, WhatsApp is now testing two new features for its platform, namely In-app browsing and Reverse Image Search.

WhatsApp In-app Browsing Feature

As the name suggests, the in-app browsing feature allows you to view links and pages within WhatsApp. That way, you can see the links received on WhatsApp directly without leaving the app. Unfortunately,  you will not be allowed to take screenshots or record screen while using this feature.

Furthermore, the in-app browser alerts users for webpages which could be potentially harmful or contain malware. That said, those concerned about privacy should note that your browsing history is inaccessible to WhatsApp / Facebook.

WhatsApp Reverse Image Search Feature

Coming to the next feature, i.e. the Reverse Image Search, it works exactly the same as it sounds. Just like the in-app browsing, this too is currently being tested by the company. The Reverse Image search feature will let you upload the image you have received in a chat on Google. Thereafter, it’ll be spun across the engine to see if it has ever appeared on the web before. That way you will be able to check whether the image you received is real or fake.

In certain countries like India, WhatsApp is a significant platform to spread misinformation and false rumours. This feature will help the company to eradicate this issue from its platform by a considerable margin.

Notably, both features are currently in the testing phase. They were spotted on WhatsApp for Android’s beta app and are now unavailable for general users. Even the current beta version is yet to see these features. Moreover, there’s no official word about when these features will be released for the public. Stay tuned for more information.
