Killing Eve Season 3 Finale: Are Eve and Villanelle abandoning each other?

The third season of BBC America’s spy drama Killing Eve concluded its third season on Sunday, May 31 with an unanticipated dramatic cliffhanger. Eve (Sandro Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) almost had an honest conversation about what they feel about each other and how they want to move ahead with each other. The finale ended on an intimate and much less violent take than any of us could have expected. The final scene left the fans wondering about how the already-confirmed season 4 would walk Eve and Villanelle back towards each other.

This season started surprisingly with Kenny’s (Sean Delaney) death in the premiere, but the duo’s investigation into his death was pretty much side-tracked until the finale, which finally solved the mystery of his death. Konstatin, Carolyn, and The Twelve were pretty much entangled in Kenny’s death. On the other side, Eve and Villanelle’s bond has reached a decisive climax, a point from where it is difficult to take a stand about their personal feelings amidst their always-on-run lives destiny has set for them.
In the final scene, Eve and Villanelle meet on a bridge. The bridge is also metaphorically significant in the backdrop of their relationship. Villanelle wants to quit killing and Eve confesses that she cannot spend a moment without thinking about Villanelle. In response, Villanelle suggests it would be better off for both of them to depart to reassure that either of them does not end up being murdered. While walking away, Eve couldn’t help herself looking back at her and she does the same with a sly smile.

Exec Producer explains the final scene

Show’s executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle breaks down the ambiguous subtleties of the final scene to Entertainment Weekly, “Well, I just think they couldn’t get shot again. Or stabbed. Of course, they are on a bridge and there are all sorts of drama that they could have happened there. I think that what was really appealing was for both of them to have an honest conversation, which we rarely see.” “It’s just a little bit more introspective than before, but that’s quite fun as well, not to do the same thing every time,” she added.

Fans now desperately want Eve and Villanelle to go official about each other in the next season if that really seems a possibility to the showrunners.
