Ready for another adventure to Middle Earth? Amazon is producing a TV series on The Lord of the Rings and bought the television rights for $250 million! That makes it the most expensive television series ever. J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay are in the process of creating it for Prime Video. Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema are producing the show along with Amazon Studios.

The show is set in the Second Age of Middle Earth before any of the events of The Lord of the Rings took place. Filming began in February 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand. Even though production stopped in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it restarted in September 2020. When is the show scheduled to come out? Is it worth watching? Well, read more to find out!

The Lord of the Rings: Cast and Plot

Middle Earth is the setting of the saga that J.R.R. Tolkien created and is the main continent of the land of Earth. The northwestern part of the continent is usually featured in Tolkien’s books and looks quite a lot like Europe.

All of the events of LOTR and The Hobbit happened during the Third Age. It began with the first downfall of Sauron and lasted for about 3021 years.

This show is going to feature the Second Age, which includes the rise of Sauron, creation of the Rings of Power, establishment and rise of Númenor as well as war between Sauron and the Elves for the rings. It ended when Sauron was defeated by Elves and Men as allies.

Morfydd Clark plays Galadriel. Meanwhile, other cast members include Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Joseph Mawle, Dylan Smith, Maxim Baldry and Markella Kavenagh.

The Lord of the Rings: Release Date and Trailer

The series is scheduled to be released sometime in 2021. Meanwhile, watch the teaser trailer below:
