The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian tragedy television series. Bruce Miller is the creator of this show. The show is based on the 1985 novel which also had the same name. Margaret Atwood, the Canadian author,  wrote the novel. The streaming service Hulu ordered the for the series as a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes. Production for this began in late 2016.The plot features a dystopia following a Second American Civil War. In this show, we also see a totalitarian society subjects fertile women, called “Handmaids”, to child-bearing slavery.

The first three episodes of the series premiered on April 26, 2017, after which the consecutive seven episodes were released every Wednesday thereafter.

The Handmaid’s Tales first season won a total of eight Primetime Emmy Awards from 13 nominations. The show also won Outstanding Drama Series.  It is the first show produced by Hulu to win major awards. This series also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.

WHAT IS THE HANDMAID’S TALE ABOUT?

According to Google, “Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, this series is set in Gilead. This is a totalitarian society in what used to be part of the United States. Gilead is ruled by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. It is also faced with environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate. In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude. One of these women, Offred, is determined to survive the terrifying world she lives in. She also plans to find the daughter that was taken from her.”

WHAT IS THE CAST FOR HANDMAID’S TALE?

In this show, we see Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne / Offred / Ofjoseph, a woman who was captured while attempting to escape to Canada. She was escaping with her husband, Luke, and daughter, Hannah. Joseph Fiennes plays the part of Commander Fred Waterford, a high-ranking government official and June’s former master. Yvonne Strahovski is seen as Serena Joy Waterford, Fred’s wife and a former conservative cultural activist. This show also sees Alexis Bledel as Dr. Emily Malek Ph.D. / Ofglen #1 / Ofsteven / Ofroy / Ofjoseph #1, June’s shopping partner.

WHEN IS SEASON 4 OF THE HANDMAID’S TALE RELEASING?

The initial date for the release of this season for the show was in autumn 2020. These plans were washed out due to the evergrowing pandemic. In the latest trailer for this show, Hulu announced that this season will only release in 2021.
