POWER BOOK III: RAISING KANAN

Created by Sascha Penn, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is a prequel to the American crime drama “Power” set in the 1990s that will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, starring Patina Miller, Malcolm M. Mays, and Hailey Kilgore, the first season of which premiered on Sunday, July 18, 2021, on Starz.

Set in South Jamaica, Queens, in 1991, “Raising Kanan” is a prequel to the original “Power” franchise. This family drama revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark.

In the first episode set in 1991 in South Jamaica, Queens, 15-year-old Kanan Stark is eager to join his family’s growing drug business, led by his mother, “Raquel Raq” Thomas.

“I wanted to surprise people with how good it is after they felt that they already know,” the rapper exclusively told RadioTimes.com. “You feel like you already know but it gets better because you feel like you already know what to expect from Power but there’s new stuff.

He also added that the show would resonate with those who come of age in the ’90s and early 2000s in particular, saying that they “grew up through that era so they understand the nuance of the things that are happening in the show and I believe that they’re going to be really passionate about it.”
