The Great is a comedy-drama television series and it has been described by Hulu as anti-historical. It is loosely based on the rise to power of Catherine the Great, Empress of All Russia.

The first episode was released on May 15, 2020, with ten episodes. The series was then renewed for a second season in July 2020 and it premiered on November 19, 2021. A third season was announced in January 2022.

Meanwhile, the show opened to positive feedback from critics. The first season has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an average score of 74 out of 100 on Metacritic. The second season holds a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average of score of 86 out of 100 on Metacritic.

The Great Season 3: Release Date and Plot

Following the positive response to the first two seasons, The Great has been renewed for a third season. However, the makers have confirmed that the upcoming season will also have ten episodes.

Since the third season has been renewed recently, there is no confirmation on the release date. Based on the time needed to make the series, we can expect it to release sometime towards the end of 2022 or in 2023.

Meanwhile, the makers have not revealed anything regarding the plot of the upcoming season. It is a satirical comedy drama about Catherine the Great’s rise from an outsider to the longest female ruler in Russia history.

The series is fictional and focuses on Catherine’s youth and marriage to Emperor Peter III alongside the plot to kill her corrupted and dangerous husband.
