2022 Movies: Upcoming and Highly Anticipated

The pandemic halted the release of major movies. The good news is that the movie industry is recovering from the effects of COVID-19. Major studios pushed back the release of movies last year. Morbius was one of the films that saw its release data changed many times. 

2022 is expected to be the renaissance for the movie industry. Over one hundred movies are set to hit cinemas this year. If you’re still hesitant about going out, no worries. It may not be instant but you will get to experience these movies right from the comfort of their homes on your Spectrum cable later. That said, these are the most anticipated movies of 2022: 

Uncharted 

Release Date: February 18 

You must have heard about the video game, Uncharted. The titular character, Nathan Drake, is one of the most well-known fictional characters in gaming today. The movie is based on the game. Uncharted stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, and others. Holland plays Nick Drake in the film. Sony Pictures dropped the first official trailer of the film back in October. 

The Godfather (50th Anniversary) 

Release Date: February 25 

Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece is getting a limited release on its 50th anniversary. Godfather is one of the greatest moviesHollywood ever made. It is among a handful of movies that are still talked about to this day. The movie catapulted Al Pacino to mainstream success. It solidified Marlon Brando as a veteran of the industry. Brando’s performance in the movie won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. 

The Batman 

Release Date: March 4 

Admit it. The trailer of The Batman features an epic soundtrack. After all, it’s Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.” Kurt Cobain’s soothing voice sounds so good for the trailer. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Batman. The movie is currently in post-production. Other cast members include Colin Farrel, Andy Serkis, and Zoe Kravitz. Matt Reeves is the director of the movie. 

Morbius 

Release Day: April 1 

Sony Pictures have greatly improved the quality of their films. Venom and its sequel were a massive success. Now, the studios have got another PG-13 rated movie in Morbius. For those who don’t know, Morbius is one of the antagonists of Spider-Man. Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto plays the titular character in the movie. With Venom 2 teasing a potential faceoff between Venom and Spider-Man, let’s see where Morbius stands in the epic crossover. 

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 

Release Date: April 8 

Sonic is one of the most popular game characters. He’s also the mascot of SEGA. Sonic games have received widespread critical acclaim for as long as they’ve been around. Ben Schwartz voices the blue hedgehog. Other cast members are Jim Carrey as Doctor Eggman and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. 

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore 

Release Date: April 15 

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter won hearts in the millennium. Sadly, the Harry Potter franchise ended with The Death Hollows: Part 2 in 2011. That doesn’t mean the love for Harry Potter died out with the movie. Book author JK Rowling has always got something in store for the fans. In 2016, she wrote the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts. The first installment hit the theaters the same year. 

Fantastic Beasts is a prequel and spin-off to the Harry Potter films. The second installment of Fantastic Beasts came out in 2018. The third installment is slated for release this year in April. It shows a young Professor Albus Dumbledore – Jude Law – as he takes on the very powerful wizard Gellert Grindelwald played by Mads Mikkelsen with the help of fellow wizards. 

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 

Release Date: May 6 

If you think Spider-Man: No Way Home was full of surprises, think again. Phase IV of MCU is about to get even madder with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The last time we say Strange, he was helping Peter Parker aka Spider-Man fix up his identity crisis. His antics did mess up the universe in some ways and now Strange has to deal with something that’s even beyond his powers, or is it? Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as the sorcerer chief. Elizebeth Olsen also returns as Scarlett Witch. 

Top Gun: Maverick 

Release Date: May 27 

Two things we can’t do: stop time and look ageless like Tom Cruise. He found mainstream success with the first Top Gun in 1986. Now, he’s returning to the franchise with Top Gun: Maverick. Cruise is one of the biggest and finest movie stars on the planet earth. Like the jet in the movie, his career really took off following the original Top Gun.
