It is based on the 2004 nonfiction book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda. The series debuted on September 11, 2022, on Starz.

The show is about Catherine de’ Medici who gets married at the age of 14 and people expect her to bring a fortune in the form of dowry and bring heirs. Although she faces a few challenges, she manages to rule for 30 years in France as a queen.
