Developed by Stu Zicherman, American Sports Story is an upcoming American sports anthology television series. Zicherman is also the executive producer of the series alongside Ryan Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, Linda Pizutti Henry, and Ira Napoliello.

It will serve as the fourth installment in the American Story media franchise. The first season will emphasize the story of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez, named Gladiator: American Sports Story.

American Sports Story Plot and Cast

American Sports Story Season 1 will focus on the life of Aaron Hernandez. The basic premise is inspired by the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. Aaron had to struggle a lot to emerge as a star in the world of sports.

He enrolled at the University of Florida and later joined the New England Patriots. However, Aaron has been involved in a few legal issues outside the field and was charged with murder in 2015. He was then sent to prison for Odin Lloyd’s murder and was later indicted for the double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012. After being acquitted, he committed suicide in prison and was 27 years old at the time of death.

We are now coming to the cast of the series which includes Josh Andrés Rivera as Aaron Hernandez, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Tim Tebow, Lindsay Mendez as Tanya Singleton, Tony Yazbeck as Urban Meyer, Jake Cannavale as Hernandez’s love interest, and Catfish Jean as Ernest “Bo” Wallace.

American Sports Story Release Date

FX had ordered a new spin-off limited series American Sports Story on August 13, 2021, the developers. Season 1 is adapted from a podcast titled Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. from The Boston Globe and Wondery and the main story will be based on the rise and fall of Aaron, who used to play for the NFL in the past.

The show will additionally explore the strands of the identity. family, career, suicide, and legacy of Hernandez in sports and American culture.
