Henry Cavill is not ready to give up Superman yet! Cavill exited from the DCEU in 2017 because of the box office disappointment of the Justice League. In May, there were many reports on the Internet claiming that he is returning to the DC Extended Universe for an unnamed film. Recently, Cavill gave an ‘Actors on Actors’ interview with Variety and here’s what he said:
“I’ve always been a fan of Superman. With a character like that, you carry the mantle with you offset. And it becomes part of your public representation. When you meet children, children don’t necessarily see me as Henry Cavill, but they might see Superman, and there’s a responsibility which comes with that.”
Henry Cavill’s Role As Superman Changed His Career!
Cavill’s journey as Superman began in the 2013 Zack Synder movie, Man Of Steel. In 2016, he joined Ben Affleck(played Batman) in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. This was followed by Joss Whedon’s Justice League in 2017. This movie also featured Wonder Woman(Gal Gadot), Aquaman(Jason Momoa) and Cyborg(Ray Fisher). When people came to know that Cavill exited in 2017, it was met with a lot of complaints!
We have got more excerpts from Cavill’s interview. He says:
“My life has changed dramatically because of it. And it has given me plenty of opportunities for roles and yeah, it’s been one of those characters which changed the entire course of my career. I’m incredibly grateful for it, and it’s also taught me a lot about myself.”
Henry Cavill also spoke about how the role had a huge impact on his daily life. He said that he had bouts of impostorism! He speaks about Superman’s character:
“He’s so good, he’s so kind, and when you start to compare yourself to him because you’re playing him, you start to really look inwards. You say, ‘Am I a good person? Can I be a good enough person to play Superman? And if you ever hear a whisper in there which is like, ‘Hmm, hold on a second. Maybe not,’ then you adjust it, and you make sure you are a better person. I think that’s all we can do in life.”
Cavill Wants To Play Superman For Years To Come!
He said, “Because it’s such a wonderful character, it’s actually a responsibility I’m happy to have, and I hope that I get to play more of Superman in years to come.”
He, however, did not confirm anything about his return to Warner Bros as Superman. But the ‘I hope I get to play more of Superman in years to come’ gives us hope that he might return soon enough! It’s been nearly 3 years since we saw Cavill play Superman. Hopefully, we get to see him in the wonderful cape soon!
