How are Great Social Media Videos Made?

Published

on

You may take social media videos for granted, but they don’t just fall off the sky. Modern social media influencers spend a lot of time creating perfection for their followers. Some spend way too much time and resources lifting the game to an entirely different level from what it was a couple of years ago.

The videos you see on Tik Tok, the Instagram Reels, and the Facebook video posts are all made with their creators’ efforts. Some of these videos feature one person in their posts, but often entire teams are behind these videos.

These teams are dedicated to filming, lights, sounds, editing, and everything else a modern film company would use. Feature-length films require more time, of course, and these short videos are simpler and faster done, but the professionality behind them is often the same.

So how do they make the videos that go viral, and we’ve all seen them? Keep reading to learn more about this and what you need in case you want to become a pro-social media influencer.

Using a professional camera

Although most influencers and social media content creators will use their phones to convert the video into app content directly, some will use professional cameras that film the scenes. The pictures are then transferred onto a computer, receiving additional editing before publication.

However, today’s modern phones see almost no difference between professional and smartphone cameras. The latest iPhones and Android phones are so good that content creators instantly record flawless videos with fantastic quality.

If you have a modern smartphone, you might not need anything else. Some feature-length movies following cinema nouveau use nothing more than smartphone cameras to record one-shot films that gained huge popularity.

Perfecting light props

Having enough natural light is ideal when filming. Doing it in the open and during daylight means you don’t need additional lights, but you might want some props to perfect the details. Lighting is art in the feature-length movie business, and even awards go to those who do it best.

It is similar in the social media industry. The influencers we see regularly won’t be as attractive as they are without proper lighting. These influencers have a team of people controlling these details, and even if there’s no one around, they must still find the right angle to get their best side.

Many different light props will help the content creators when recording at night or inside. Aside from bright light bulbs illuminating the room, multiple dimmers, focusing props, and coloring items will help develop the ideal atmosphere.

Using excellent sound recording

How many times have you just scrolled up or down to the next video because you couldn’t understand a word the person on the video says? This is a common mistake that amateurs make, but for professionals, there’s no option to go with the poor audio quality of their videos.

Another thing you’ve probably seen in many videos is people who have earphones on them and hold the mic in their hands to record the videos. This is a trend on some social media platforms but an excellent pointer to how valuable great sound quality is.

True professionals will go with far more advanced solutions. They’d choose between the three main types of mics – condenser, dynamic, and lavalier microphones. They are all different and have different use cases depending on the needs of the content creator.

Editing

The last thing before publishing is editing. Most content creators would personally edit their videos using specialized editing software, but some will hire agencies to do it professionally. For example, one of the most popular Australian influencers, Andy Csinger, probably uses a professional agency for video production in Sydney based on how good her video editing is.

Editing gives the creators a chance to combine the best shots of a particular event or location and come up with a flawless video that the influencers’ followers will love and share with others on the internet, leading to an additional new follower generation.

There’s no professional video content without editing. If you’re about to do this for a living, you can’t expect to do it without pro editing software. It may take a lot of time, but it will give you that edge you’re looking for when trying to stand out from the competition.

Conclusion

Social media influencers are now people who do this for a living. They put their hearts and souls into the business, making them famous for their content, while consumers do not realize how much work is behind those published videos.

If you’re trying to become an influencer yourself, you might want to consider getting these items before filming. Aside from having a great idea and being genuinely good at what you’re doing, you can’t ignore the role of technology.
