OtherSide Entertainment passes the control of System Shock 3 to Tencent!

OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed that Tencent Holdings Ltd, will be taking over the RPG, System Shock 3. But the ownership still lies with Nightdive. ‘OtherSide Entertainment’ has also tweeted about officially passing the control to Tencent.

The reason behind Tencent choosing this game and the remake ideas for the same is unknown but it is true that the game has passed into safer hands now. ‘OtherSide Entertainment’ has quoted that “As a smaller Indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own. We believe Tencent’s deep capabilities and expertise as a leading game company will bring the franchise to new heights.”.

Also, about Nightdive being the unshakeable owner, a representative said, “OtherSide licensed certain rights from us to make sequels. Those rights have now been transferred to Tencent. Nothing about that transfer in any way impacts our ownership.”.

Reason for the Control Transfer

It can be inevitably sensed that the grappling condition of OtherSide has made it to give up. Also, the developer has kept a keen eye on transferring control to a strong and trustworthy conglomerate. The transfer of two System Shock series, 3 and 4 to Tencent groomed the interest in knowing the reason behind such a shift of control.

The websites of System Shock, systemshock3.com, and systemshock4.com have also been growing inactive for a year now, reported VGC. And OtherSide has also started working on another website to give information on System Shock 3 updates.

The studio had been working but the layoffs of staff especially after the release of the pre-alpha teaser, made OtherSide look for a different publisher. The VP (of Marketing and Business Development) of OtherSide, Boston had also posted on social platforms. It confirmed the staff and officials were working on a new project with a distinct team. And that the project is different from System Shock 3. But, he left a little soon after he had posted them.

OtherSide Entertainment’s chosen publisher Tencent is the second publisher of the studio. Earlier, back in 2017, Starbreeze had got the publishing rights and had promised to devote $12 million for the game. But when the publisher had a rebuilding due to the scare of bankrupts, they abruptly fell off from the developers. This loss also included OtherSide to pay back the amount Starbreeze had priorly invested. After all this desolation, OtherSide couldn’t resume on their projects and had no news to update on their websites and other platforms.

Now, just like a rebirth and a blessing in disguise, the second publisher Tencent is expected to fill the pockets for OtherSide now.
