Queen of the South is a crime drama television series, based on the Spanish language novel titled La Reina del Sur by author Arturo Perez-Reverte. The show has had four seasons air on USA Network. All four seasons till now have had thirteen episodes each, airing between the months of June and September of every year, since 2016. Queen of the South is created by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller. It stars Alice Braga as Teresa Mendoza, the titular character; the queen of the south. It follows her story as she comes from a poor village in Mexico and becomes a rich, powerful woman who controls a vast drug empire.

The fourth season of Queen of the South aired in 2019, the last episode of which aired on August 29, 2019. The show was renewed for a fifth season on the same day.

Cast of Queen of the South- Who is returning for season 5?

The main cast of the show is all expected to return in season 5. This includes Alice Braga as the queen of the south, Teresa Mendoza, Molly Burnett as Kelly Anne Van Awken, Hemky Madera as Pote Galvez, Peter Gadiot as James Valdez and Nick Sagar as Alonzo Loya. One character that will not be returning for season five is Julian Silva’s Tony Parra, due to him being killed in the finale of season four.

Release Date of Queen of the South Season 5

The fifth season of Queen of the South was announced by USA in August 2019, shortly after the fourth season ended. Production had begun on season five of the show, with the Russians, who were teased in the finale of season four, likely to be the main adversary of Teresa Mendoza in season five. Production was halted indefinitely in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Season five of Queen of the South is likely to air sometime in early 2021. A 15-second clip was also released, teasing the fifth season of the show.
