Retro Movies That Need A Comeback

Published

on

There are two routes of thinking when it comes to older movies where the franchises have died off. On the one hand, there are those that are either too perfect to tamper with or too awful as a concept to be worth it, despite the misguided efforts of companies trying to capitalize on the name.

On the other, there are those movies where, even if the movies they belonged to were dicey, the concept itself was glorious or at the very least solid enough to be worth another look. These are some movie concepts that really need to be dusted off and revisited in the future.

Highlander

A battle to the death between immortals across the entire world and over thousands of years, where every victory results in the winner growing stronger? No matter what your opinion on the quality of the Highlander movies, that concept is absolute gold, but unfortunately, the franchise has been in development hell for a long time.

The last news on any kind of remake or reboot was a report that none other than the most chiseled geek on the planet, Henry Cavill himself, was on board as part of a new production, but considering that the production in question was announced over a decade and a half ago, hopes aren’t high.

Something Like Indiana Jones

This section is very carefully titled as we’ve all seen the trailer for the upcoming Indy movie and like much of the internet, we’re of the opinion that the old archaeologist should be finally put out to pasture. With that said, the idea of a daring explorer diving into the depths of history and mystery is still hugely popular, and a new face and franchise could be incredible.

Franchises like Tomb Raider and Uncharted carry the torch in various media, countless books out there are a fedora away from being official Indiana Jones novels, and a quick look at a casino like MrQ will reveal entire franchises of slot games with some very obvious inspiration. We’d recommend looking at their guide on RTP before you jump too deeply into that area though as it’s an important number to know.

The League of Extraordinary Gentleman

Alan Moore is easily one of the greatest graphic novel creators of all time but the poor man has been through the wringer when it comes to movie adaptations. The jewel in the poorly-made crown was 2003’s adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, a film torn apart by the original author and by many reviewers.

If the massive popularity surrounding Watchmen is anything to go by though, Moore’s dark and sordid take on classic hero concepts would be amazing to see in this era of almost monthly superhero films coming out. The classic kinds of characters involved like the Invisible Man would also make a great change from the standard fare.

We know this is going to be a divisive topic, and obviously, nostalgia will play a big role in whatever you might want to see remade, but right now, these are the ones we think the time is just right for.
