OPPO’s SuperVOOC is currently the fastest wired charger with a 50W speed at 10V/5A, but it might change soon. Xiaomi is planning to ramp up its charging technology with Super Charge Turbo. The Chinese manufacturer will announce its new charging technology at an event tomorrow, but we got an early glimpse. Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin gave the first look of it at a post in his Weibo account. The Xiaomi’s 100W charger running 20V/5A is seen in action against OPPO’s 50W solution.
Xiaomi’s 100W charger managed to reach 100% in just 17 minutes while OPPO charger was still at 65%. The speeds are remarkable given the fact that Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo Technology is powering a 4,000 mAh battery while SuperVOOC works with a smaller 3,700 mAh battery. Huawei will also launch a 55W Super Charge for the Mate X, but it takes 35 minutes to charge fully.
The company didn’t offer any more details on how the future fast-charging technology works. Although the Type-C connector already supports 100W power draw, the challenge lies in delivering this much power into a small battery without overloading. The SuperVOOC achieves that by splitting the 3,400 mAh battery into two separate 1,700 mAh cells.
Xiaomi’s current handsets have support up to 27W wired chargers. Even the Xiaomi Mi 9 packs only an 18W charger in the box. So, the Super Charge Turbo will likely debut with a flagship Xiaomi device, but the smartphone is unknown. The video was posted by General Manager of the company’s Redmi brand, Lu Weibing so we can assume it to be a Redmi smartphone. Maybe Xiaomi will announce it at tomorrow’s launch event.
