5 Strange Gambling Rules And Laws Across The Globe

Published

on

Gambling has largely become an accepted pastime. This activity has only grown in popularity since it has become more entrenched in the online space. It is now perfectly natural to log onto a casino site and play through a round of blackjack, roulette, poker, or several hundred slot games. Almost everyone knows how this process works by now.

However, every country is allowed to set its own rules and regulations when it comes to gambling. As such, there are some complicated and strange laws surrounding gambling in other parts of the world. Here are some strange gambling t and laws from across the globe that you may find unexpecting.

No Online Gambling In South Korea

The government in South Korea has never legalised the act of gambling online on its shores. This ban includes all games, chance, and lotteries. However, it is perfectly legal to gamble in a land-based casino in South Korea, but there are fewer than twenty of these establishments within the country’s borders. As such, it is likely that you will run into a few people that have never actually gambled before if you happen to visit South Korea.

Timed Bingo In North Carolina

It may come as a surprise for some people, but bingo is still considered to be an act of gambling. In fact, it is the most popular form of gambling in some countries like the UK. Even more surprising is the fact that some places have made it a law that a game of bingo cannot exceed a certain time limit.

North Carolina is a state in the USA. While it is perfectly legal to gamble in this part of the world, a new set of laws were devised around using the game of bingo to raise money for a charity. Again, it is legal to use bingo as a fundraising tool: however, these bingo games must not exceed five hours in length. There is also a law that stipulates that one organisation cannot host more than one bingo fundraiser a week. No one is entirely sure why these laws exist. Perhaps they are holdover laws from a long-forgotten political regime that never got deleted.

No Online Gaming Sites In New Zealand

As you probably know, online gambling is not illegal in New Zealand. You can use online casino guides or online gambling guides to find several places to play online casino games. However, when you visit a site like Online Casino Review, you may notice that none of the featured sites is based in New Zealand or Australia. This is because it is illegal to host or visit gambling sites in these countries.

As such, any gamblers from this part of the world will have to find a casino site from another part of the world if they wish to engage in any online gambling. It isn’t that complicated, as there are plenty of online casinos from other regions on the web. However, it is still beneficial to know about these laws to avoid accidentally breaking the law.

No Gambling In The Library In The UK

If you do not have access to a computer at home, your local library may be the best place to go to visit the internet. You may want to refrain from using this location to visit an online casino in the UK, however. It was made illegal to gamble in all UK libraries in 1898 under the Library Offences Act. While most of these laws have been abolished in the years since, it is still illegal to gamble in a UK library that is owned by an industrial society. That includes all online forms of gambling. While this law may not affect many people, it is still a good idea to check who owns your local library if you plan on gambling at this type of establishment in the UK.

No Sunday Dominos In Alabama

This next law seems like another one that someone forgot to abolish or thought it was unnecessary, but it is illegal to play dominos on a Sunday in the state of Alabama. It is also illegal to go hunting or play cards on Sundays in this part of the world. This rule applies whether you play for money or not. This law stems from old Baptist and protestant laws, which wanted the day of Sunday to be used as a true day of rest. Of course, the concerning dominos seems almost impossible for the police to enforce, but it is still one that is worth remembering.

Conclusion

Some of these strange laws may seem more serious than others. Nonetheless, it is still worth researching the laws and regulations that surround gambling. It is more necessary now that the activity has moved into the online space.
