SatyarthThe CEO of the Academy- award-nominated production house “Blumhouse Productions”, Jason Blum says that he has no plans of restarting the 1930s-40s Universal monster Universe. Three years ago, Universal Pictures announced that they will be delving into the same grounds as Marvel and DC. Universal Pictures aspired to create a Universal Monster Franchise again as Universal Studios have been most famous for their monsters like Frankenstein and Count Dracula.

With the advent of “The Mummy”, Universal Studios hoped to start off a chain reaction of monster films and establish the Monster Universe. That did not go well. “The Mummy” bombed in the box offices like anything, and even had a disappointing critical reaction. All dreams were shattered. Although we might not know them, there were some people who were excited about the Universal Monster Universe. Universal took back the idea and dismissed the tentative plans.

Universal Studios released “The Invisible Man” in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, collaborating with Jason Blum’s “Blumhouse Productions”. It was after a long time that Universal was releasing a monster movie while Blum’s production was already famed for such ventures. “The Invisible man” actually did well at the box-offices and triggered several debates about feminism, #metoo and off course, Are Universal Studios planning on the Monster Universe Again?
Another aesthetic influence for ‘Toe’ were the Universal Monster movies. Super stylized yet simple, and look we hope to use in future projects!

The answer is sadly a No! They’re not. They have announced several Monster movies earlier featuring Javier Bardem as Frankenstein’s monster, Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man, Russell Crowe as Dr Jekyll and even Angelina Jolie as the Bride of Frankenstein, but they said that they’re going to be all stand-alone films (Hell! I would’ve loved to see Bardem as Frankenstein).
Blumhouse recently hired Karyn Kusama to scribe a brand new version of Universal’s most famous (maybe the world’s most famous) monster- Dracula. Jason Blum, when asked about whether or not the folks at Universal are trying to rebuild the notion of “Monster Universe or Dark Universe”, he said:
“We have no plans to do that, The way Universal is handling them is they’re just kind of looking at each one individually as one-offs. But I personally love them and we had a great experience on The Invisible Man, and I’d love to do more for sure.”
this is one of my favorite shots in movies. when i was a kid my dad showed me all the universal monster movies. this moment was one of the first times i realized that movies were an art form, even if i couldn’t articulate it at the time pic.twitter.com/ASgLfRSC9g

In fact, Blumhouse isn’t even involved with some of Universals major Monster productions like The Wolf Man featuring Ryan Gosling (“I don’t know anything about that one,” Blum says) and the Bride of Frankenstein featuring Angelina Jolie, which has already passed through the hands of filmmakers like Bill Condon and David Koepp.
“We only have Karyn Kusama, and I don’t have a script there,” says Blum. “So I’m sure there’ll be another one that goes first, but there’s a very good chance it won’t be one of ours.”

Whether or not it’s a Universal effect, we would have to wait and watch, till then you can enjoy Blumhouse’s new production- You should have left, and hope for another Academy nomination.

I do not hate people, but I despise their existence. Hi, I’m an actor, writer, poet, visual artist, a man of science and also the least favourite person in my family. Our beloved Hemingway, once said "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." I believed in this quote humbly, truly and faithfully, now I have Anemia. I hope you like my works and if you do then please tell the President about it (seriously, all we want is fame).
