Star Trek’s Misleading Timeline: Read to find out more!

on

Star Trek is the only franchise in the world which has entertained its fans for over 5 decades. The show which made its debut in 1966 has continued to provide quality content to its fanbase and has managed to garner audience from all age groups. The franchise released its first series in ’66 called ‘Star Trek: The Original Series‘. For what was a major leap in faith for the creators became a super success and highest-grossing show in the late ’60s and early ’70s.

Gene Roddenberry, who created the series was hesitant about the success of the futuristic sci-fi show. The people of the late ’60s absolutely loved the concept of the show and when its first series ended in ’69, they called in for the renewal of the series. However, even after being the oldest and most-watched TV-series and movie franchise in the world, Star Trek has tons of gaps between its shows and movies timeline.

The ongoing series, which is the 8th series of the franchise, Piccard has left its fans in the doldrums. The misleading and poorly laid timeline of the show often confuses the fans. Due to sudden jumps from one series to another, shot in different decades has caused inconsistency in the story of the show.

The fans in every decade could rarely entertain the way the script pans out in the followings years or series. For example, the idea of recasting the Original Series actors for the 2009 Star Trek reboot would have sounded absurd to fans in 2003, when Enterprise was still on the air. New Star Trek projects are interesting because they’re unpredictable to for the fans.

However, one wrong setting for a future can be both thrilling yet risky as they have to connect it with previous or the upcoming series or movies. The show has although, in every series and movies fleshed out the characters, sets and the environment really well. The 23rd century is covered in various series and the transition of the fleets from the 22nd to the 23rd century.

The show and the movie do become vague at some point. There are certain scenes, characters and ideas which need more context. Such ambiguity leaves room for confusion and has often led to poor understanding of the plot. For example the lack of description given to the 24th century in the show. This has essentially caused the fans to put a hold on their obsession as the lack of content has only jumbled their facts about the show.

A franchise which has spread over five decades is not easy to follow, there have been various changes in the cinematography, the method of directing and the quality of audio as well video. It has indeed changed the experience of watching the series and movies of this franchise for its ardent fans. What we are looking at from the upcoming movies and series is consistency.

It is speculated that the upcoming film project by Noah Hawley would be based in the 24th century. The only issue with this is that it will be eight years post ‘The Undiscovered Count‘ era. However, according to sources, this will make the movie seem like a period drama and more enjoyable and relatable for the fans to watch it. It will offer tons of content and material to absorb if it acts as the bridge between ‘The New Generation‘ and the older films. This hopefully would reduce the missing gap in the Star Treks Franchise.
