Most of the notorious cases are being given the documentary lives in order to bring them out to the public. One of them being the ‘I’ll be Gone In The Dark’, is Liz Garbus’s set of six episodes which depicts how the killer was put behind the bars indirectly through a lady. The six-part series will be released starting 28 June, with the final episode airing on 2 August.
The serial killer, also referred to as the East Area Rapist, was known to target victims (aged 13 to 44) in their sleep during home invasions in suburban areas where residents generally felt safe. He had committed more than 50 rapes and at least 13 murders in the span of 3 years from 1976 to 1979.
The book ‘I’ll Be Gone In The Dark’ by Michelle McNamara is obsessive research about the serial killer. Michelle tragically had passed away in 2016 before the manuscript for her book was finished. Her outstanding and unrelenting investigation into the Golden State Killer takes center stage in this terrific docuseries. Previously Michelle McNamara had released her powerful article “In the Footsteps of a Killer” on February 27, 2013, in which she referred to the serial killer and rapist as the Golden State Killer. The name stuck, and it helped bring more attention to the crimes committed and the vast area of California where he operated.
Knowing about these serial killers is gut-wrenching and oddly exciting at the same time. But to the relief of the California citizens the Golden state killer was caught two months after the book was released. Also, the man behind the mask was Joseph James DeAngelo Jr. He uttered the word “guilty” in a low, raspy voice in the trial and went on to say “I did all that, I didn’t have the strength to push him out. He made me, he went with me. It was like in my head, I mean, he’s a part of me. I didn’t want to do those things. I pushed Jerry out and had a happy life. I did all those things. I destroyed all their lives. So now I’ve got to pay the price.”
