Ready to talk about one of the most exciting BBC dramas of this year? A Suitable Boy is a BBC television drama miniseries that has been adapted from a 1993 novel of the same name by Vikram Seth. Andrew Davis adapted the show and wrote the screenplay while Mira Nadir directed it.

United Kingdom and India both put in efforts into producing the series and is has been recorded in four original languages: Bengali, English, Hindi and Urdu. Mira Nadir, Vikram Seth, Andrew Davies, Faith Penhale, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, Lydia Dean Pilcher, Aradhana Seth, Mona Qureshi, and Ayela Butt served as the executive producers for the series.

Lydia Dean Pitcher and Aradhana Seth produced the show while Lookout Point acted as the production company and BBC Studios, Viniyard Films and Netflix distributed the series.

A Suitable Boy: Plot and Cast

The plot of the miniseries is set in a post-independence and post-partition India and follows four families. The story is set in a fictional town named Brahmpur, which lies between Banares and Patna along the river Ganges. One of the main characters, Mrs. Rupa Mehta is trying her best to find “a suitable boy” for her daughter Lata.

Lata is a 19 year old university student who is independent and doesn’t agree with her mother’s and her brother Arun’s views. She is forced to make a choice between Kabir, Haresh and Amit as her mother continues to get her will.

Mahira Kakkar plays Rupa Mehta while Tanya Maniktala plays Lata Mehra while Vivek Gomber plays Arun Mehra. Ishaan Khatter plays Maan Kapoor while Ram Kapoor plays Mahesh Kapoor and Mikhail Sen plays Amit Chatterji.

Tabu plays Saeeda Bai while Rasika Dugal plays Savita Kapoor and Nami Das plays Haresh Khanna. Danesh Razvi plays Kabir Durrani while Shujaat Khan plays Ustad Majeed Khan.
