Google Pixel 2 with Android Q spotted on GeekBench
Google will be unveiling its upcoming Android Q OS in Google I/O 2019, scheduled this May. Now, ahead of the same, a Geekbench listing has just surfaced showcasing Pixel 2 running the forthcoming Android Q. This is a strong implication to the fact that the developer preview of Android Q is very near.
According to the GeekBench listing, its an unknown device running Android Q AOSP on ARM64 processor. That said, we can clearly see the codename- “walleye” in the motherboard section. For those unaware, “walleye” is the codename of the Google Pixel 2 smartphone launched back in 2017.
Moving further, the Pixel 2 running Android Q scores 1,856 points in single core tests followed by 6307 points in the multi-core test.
Android Q Developer Preview
That said, Google is expected to announce the Android Q developer preview in the coming I/O 2019 conference. It’ll be held in Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Furthermore, the meeting will commence on May 7 and end on May 9, 2019.
To recall, the Google developer preview for Android P was first announced at I/O 2018. The list of devices alongside Pixel series comprised- the OnePlus 6, Essential PH-1, Nokia 7 Plus, OPPO R15 Pro, Mi Mix 2S, Sony Xperia XZ2, and the Vivo X21. This was made possible due to Google’s Project Treble- an effort to make Android easier to update. This year, reports say that Google will be incorporating more smartphone manufacturers for Android Q Beta.
Although we are yet to experience the developer preview, the Android Q is expected to bring new features including a system-wide dark mode. Rumors also hint at foldable phone support, enhanced PiP mode, native support for face recognition and more. Moreover, it is also expected that Android Q will leave the back navigation button behind and will solely rely on the home button and gestures.
As of now, the Android Q developer preview is expected to reach the Pixel-series by August. After that, on other selected smartphones from the partnered brand. The final version of Android Q will arrive by October alongside the arrival of Pixel 4. Stay tuned.
