Admission to MBA: How to write a good essay

Published

on

For admission to MBA, you need to write a motivational essay or motivation letter. Such tasks differ from ordinary tasks at the university because your further education depends on this text and whether you will have it at all. Of course, writing this essay will be more difficult because you will feel a lot of pressure related to the importance of the text.

Such pressure can harm the quality of the text, so we advise you to work on your impostor syndrome first and take the time to clearly outline the text so that you do not forget about the essential details you want to say.

Of course, you can always ask for help. Just google write my essay for me and choose the most suitable service for assistance. However, if you are writing an essay yourself and just looking for some inspiration and explanation – here are some tips from professionals from the top essay writing services that will help you along the way.

Don’t “think”: make sure you understand the essay requirements.

We often “think” that we understand all the essay requirements. It is essential to know the number of essays to be written, their topics, and the word limit (if any). This ensures that you know your “starting point,” without which all your efforts will be in vain.

If necessary, make a timetable (using pen and paper or MS Excel or MS Word), writing down the essays, their topics, and specific instructions for writing them, including deadlines.

Another helpful tip: most business schools describe what they think makes a successful essay in their admissions materials – read these notes to familiarize yourself with their expectations.

Visualize: think about the essay outline

Once you know what kind of essay you want, spend some time thinking about it – visualize it. This is the essential part of the essay writing process – more important than the actual writing – as it is about structure.

Think about what you want your essay to say and how it relates to the topic. Are there any examples from your personal or professional life that you would like to mention? What makes you a candidate that the admission should choose over others? If it helps, write down all these thoughts on paper without thinking about how you will structure them. That will come later.

Don’t stop: write a rough draft of your essay.

Now that you know what you want to write, it is time to write the essay. I suggest you write without interruption to correct various mistakes. Write in one breath – this will be your draft.

Keep it simple: edit the draft.

Once you have written the draft, read it to see if it reflects what you wanted to express. If it doesn’t, identify the sections where you stray from the main point and why you think so. Perhaps it is an incorrect formulation of the thought or simply out of place. Printing the essay and highlighting the areas you think need to be corrected with a pen is helpful. Write down ideas/examples that you would like to use.

Show the essay to family members and close friends. Ask them to read it and determine how well the article expresses the main idea you wanted to convey.

Avoid the temptation to use a lot of big words unless they fit the context. But don’t cram the content with clever words to show off your high level of English. A simple but straightforward essay is better than a very complicated and confusing one.

Write the final version.

With feedback and your criticisms on the draft, you can write the final version of the essay. Do not worry about writing a “perfect” paper. After all, your understanding of perfection may differ significantly from the understanding of the person who will read the essay.

Instead, focus on making the essay your personal story – something unique. There is nothing wrong with rewriting the piece many times until you are satisfied with the final version. But in no case do not analyze the essay! You have succeeded if the essay is a convincing, concise story without grammatical errors.
