Barbarians Season 2: Release Date, Trailer and more!

Created by Andreas Heckmann, Arne Nolting and Jan Martin Scharf, Barbarians is a German historical war drama television series. It is a fictional account of events during the Roman Empire’s occupation of Germania and the resulting rebellion of the Germanic tribes led by Arminius.

The first season of the show premiered on October 23, 2020 and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. It currently holds an approval rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and the series has been already renewed for a second season.

Barbarians Plot and Cast

In the first season, Arminius and Thusnelda united the Germanic tribes under one banner and took on the three Roman Legions. The successful ambush led to a humiliating defeat for the Roman Empire. This victory should put Arminius and Thusnelda in power as King and Queen of the tribes.

Thusnelda’s father is planning a big attack with Hadgan. The duo intend to strike when Arminius least expected and they can take the power for themselves. Apart from the family threat, there is a bigger peril looming for Arminius and Thusnelda. The two may have won the battle, but the war with Rome is not over yet.

While Arminius and the Germanic tribes push the rest of the Romans east of the Rhine, the Emperor of Rome, Tiberius is also organizing another army. Arminius has to face more and bigger legions of Romans lead by Germanicus and Folkwin Wolfspeer’s adverse experiences could lead to a bitter betrayal.

Folkwin has distanced himself from Thusnelda and Arminius after almost ending up as a slave for the Romans and losing Thusnelda to Arminius. Folkwin was a reason behind Thusnelda and Arminius’ success. He was the one who pushed the lie that Thusnelda was connected to the gods and was the reason that Arminius is alive.

Folkwin now suffers since his former lover is about to marry his former best friend and potentially becoming the Queen and King. Arminius may have offered to make Folkwin a prince if he is crowned king but Folkwin considers it an insult. He is intent on killing Arminius if he becomes the Germanic king.

Coming to the cast, the lead actors of Season 1 are expected to reprise their roles that include Laurence Rupp, Jeanne Goursaud, David Schutter, Bernhard Schutz, Nicki von Tempelhoff, Ronald Zehrfeld, Eva Verena Muller, Nikolai Kinski and others.

Barbarians Season 2 Release Date

The makers have not revealed a release date for Barbarians Season 2. However, since Season 1 premiered in 2020, we can expect the second season to release by the end of 2022.

The new season might consist of six episodes like Season 1 with the same runtime. The developers are yet to provide further updates related to Season 2.
