Business mogul HIPHOPGAMER leads a new generation in Black Tech

There are 2.5 billion players worldwide, a population of all ethnic groups and all ages (especially in mobile gaming, the largest market segment). Quartz noticed that in less than ten years, “57 percent of U.S. video gamers between the ages of 6 to 29 will be people of color.” Black and Hispanic youth in the United States spend on both mobile and console games more time per day than white youth on average. There are very few games focused on characters like them for the hundreds of millions of people around the world, particularly in demographic products that are driving the industry to rapid growth. This is also a missed opportunity for business.

African Americans comprise an enormous number of video gamers because, after Asian Americans, they become the second-largest ethnicity in the industry. While this is true, black game developers constitute only 2.5 percent of the whole industry.

In addition to being the coolest jobs, the black tech professionals cannot remove negative representations and stereotypes from existing games. Having said that, in the video game industry, there are some African Americans who try to change this precisely.
