In the recent few years, Disney is into creating the live-action feature film versions of its previous animated films. We have already seen it for Maleficent, Beauty, and Beast, Aladdin to name a few. Mulan and The Little Mermaid were next on the list. The Little Mermaid is still in the production phase but Disney was anticipating a worldwide theatrical release of Mulan on 27th March 2020.
Little did everyone know that a virus named COVID-19 was going to enter the scene. The pandemic crisis has brought along with itself the drastic measures of social distancing and self-quarantine and home-quarantine. All public places including cinema halls have been closed as long as the crisis lasts. As a consequence, Disney delayed its release date for several movies like Mulan and Black Widow and has plans of launching Artemis Fowl online on Disney Plus instead of the theatres.
New release date and Cast of Mulan:
In December 2019, Disney had launched the trailer of Mulan along with the original release date. The film is now set to premiere on July 24, suffering a 4-month delay. The film’s top cast consists of Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Li Gong as Xianniang, Jet Li as Emperor, and Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan. The main cast has already done heavy campaigning and promotion in the US before the pandemic crisis entered the US.
Niki Caro, the director of this film, had shared the news about the new release date via an Instagram post some time ago. Mulan and Disney fans hope the film releases as soon as possible.
Plot synopsis of Mulan:
The film is based on the famous ancient folklore of China called “The Ballad of Mulan”. In this ballad, the Chinese Emperor orders its people of ancient China that one man from every family must enroll for the army for the upcoming war against Bori Khan. In Mulan’s family, her father is a retired warrior of old age. Therefore on behalf her father and her family, being the eldest daughter, enrolled herself for the army.
Some rather disappointing news for Disney fans is that this film will not be a musical adaption of its previous animated versions, unlike Aladdin and Beauty and Beast. The director had previously stated that the Mulan will an adaption of the ballad and not the Disney animation film.
