Easy guide how to create game manual

Published

on

Do you remember that several years ago all licensed box game editions had the additional game manuals inside theirs cases? Sometimes they were a little bit weak and included only general information about your game, but mostly they were fulfilled with the colorful arts, screenshots and other extra stories, related to game lore. It was always interesting to check the papers like that because they always enhanced the perception of a new game, that you just bought and came to your home to install it as fast as you can! Moreover, some game manuals were placed at the game CD or DVD in digital version and the file format was PDF in 100% of cases because this format is suitable for graphic and text materials both.

However, nowadays more and more publishers decide to stop producing the box versions of their games and came to the most popular online stores, such as STEAM, GOG, ORIGIN, Epic Games, UPLAY and more. Now we can’t see the huge game manuals with the lore text, images and also instructions about how to play the game, or what controls should you use at your gamepad or keyboard. I really do not like this trend because getting the fresh manual was always a good surprise for any kid, who like to play videogames, but nowadays some of developers include the extra download options in their game packages, such as DLCs.

Just imagine if you are young developer and you want to pay respect to the past times studios and make the classical game manual for your upcoming product. So, you decided to do it absolutely and choose the standard file format for such material. PDF will be good and suitable to make your nostalgic game manual and also impress the future users.

First of all, you should make the text basis for your multiplied material. Decide what you want to say to your audition. It could be just a short guide about controls, but I really recommend you to share the plot details and some exclusive lore facts with people. It will help you to keep them involved into your product. Keep your text well-structured and think about the description. To make quality text you should hire two persons: copywriter and proofreader. If you have a huge budget you may hire a big team and it will be much better because you will be able to increase the quality and structure up to the top in a short term.

Secondly, you should collect some screenshots from your game to create some guides at the beginning of your game manual. Then edit it. If you have enough skills, you may do it by yourself. Just download any vector graphical editor and draw some figure captures to create the guide with useful graphic. What about lore facts and plot details? I will recommend you to look for somebody, who has a good drawing skills. Just create the task and send it to your future designer. In my opinion, all illustrations should be colorful enough and be relevant to your game narration. Try to keep the united style for both materials to make your users guide well-balanced.

So, you got text and graphical materials and you need to compile them together in one file. You are looking for some software to manage PDF files. Forget about it! Now you don’t have to download at your PC anything. Just open your web browser and choose the online service. For example, 2pdf.com with its merge pdf tool will be good enough for working with such files quickly without losing the original materials quality.
