Hello, Readers! Getaway Driver is a new show from Discovery aimed at car aficionados, and fans of Fast & Furious will be pleased to learn that Michelle Rodriguez will host it. This July, expect vehicle stunts, fires, chases, and related reality TV drama.
Discovery has shown its hand after Netflix’s vehicle stunt competition, Hyperdrive, had a successful run. Getaway Driver, according to Discovery, is the real-life Fast & Furious. As audiences’ appetites for the thrilling and unusual grow, competition reality shows are becoming bigger and crazier, and Getaway Driver promises to be a wild journey.
However, it is still uncertain how the show will proceed and operate in the aftermath of the pandemic. Fortunately, Hollywood has found a method to largely resume production while maintaining safety safeguards. This should imply that spectators won’t have to wait too long to see the show.
Getaway Driver: Release Date
On Monday, July 19, 2021, the show debuts on Discovery at 9 PM ET/PT and streams on Discovery+.
Getaway Driver: Official Trailer
What is this about?
The eight-episode show will feature 24 drivers ranging from street racers to YouTubers to drifting champions. The drivers will be reenacting a real-life automobile chase, with the main goal of outrunning the chasers and escaping a 60-acre obstacle-filled property to win cash.
It won’t be like Netflix’s Hyperdrive, which is a Ninja Warrior-style format. But, according to Discovery, it’s “part Baby Driver, part Grand Theft Auto,” and who wouldn’t want to play that combination? The rules are simple: elude the pursuers and flee the facility to earn some cash.
Rodriguez will be joined by Wyatt Knox, a stunt driver, rally champion, and tactical driving instructor, as co-hosts of the show.
Rodriguez said, “I’m glad Discovery has decided to take it to the edge with a show like this. This is a whole new type of challenge for racers of all classes, I’m excited for what we’re pioneering here.”
