“The limited series follows the legendary fashion designer, as he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that’s synonymous with luxury, sex, status, and fame, literally defining the era he lives in, the 1970s and ’80s New York — until a hostile takeover forces him to battle for control of his most precious asset… the name Halston itself.”
Based on Simply Halston, a 1991 biography by Steven Gaines, the show tracks Halston’s career from his creation of the pillbox hat Jacqueline Kennedy wore to John F Kennedy’s presidential inauguration in 1961 to his quest for funding as he moved away from millinery and into designing womenswear. He soon opened a boutique on Madison Avenue, experimented with Ultrasuede, and dressed some of New York City’s most glamorous women. He would eventually go into partnership with Norton Simon Industries and release a perfume with a teardrop-shaped bottle designed by Peretti, before a tragic downfall precipitated by drug abuse, a short temper, and questionable business decisions.
