Raising Dion is an American superhero drama streaming television series which premiered October 4, 2019, on Netflix. It is based on the 2015 comic book and a short film which had the same name and was written by Dennis Liu.

The acting overall is really good but special shout out to Ja’Siah for holding the role so well. Alisha Wainwright plays a mother trying to navigate a superpower child so well. The storyline and plot twists were awesome, I literally yelled at the tv and pinched my husband’s arm throughout most of it. As a massive superhero fan, I love the introduction of an 8-year-old with superpowers and not someone older. Dion’s reaction as an 8-year-old highlight the thinking of one at that age not fully grasping what that responsibility means. I generally get a sense of where movies are headed but the writers did SO WELL with Pat being the bad guy twist.

According to Wikipedia, “Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole who raises her son Dion after the death of her husband Mark. The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several magical, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat, and protect Dion from people out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.”

WHAT IS THE CAST FOR RAISING DION?

According to Wikipedia, the main cast of this show consists of:

• Alisha Wainwright as Nicole Reese, a widowed mother who is raising her son alone while trying to manage his supernatural abilities after the death of her husband.
• Ja’Siah Young as Dion Warren, Nicole’s eight-year-old, superpowered son.
• Jazmyn Simon as Kat Neese, Nicole’s older sister who is a surgeon.
• Sammi Haney as Esperanza Jimenez, Dion’s classmate and best friend. She also has brittle bone disease osteogenesis imperfecta.
• Jason Ritter as Pat Rollins, an engineer at a biotech company called BIONA, Mark’s best friend and Dion’s godfather. He is revealed to be “The Crooked Man”, having been affected by the Iceland event and given the ability to transform into a storm-like entity that hunts down and absorbs other superpowered beings to survive.

WHEN IS SEASON 2 OF RAISING DION RELEASING?

This show was renewed for a second season in Juanuary 2020. The current pandemic situation put the production of this show to halt so there is no official release date as of now for this show. We can expect the show to air sometime in 2021.
